FAQ

Who is the Southeast Women’s Rhythm Retreat For?
This retreat is for women of all ages who enjoy any or all of the activities we offer: drumming, singing, connecting in community, meditation, yoga, and spiritual development. The event is trans-inclusive and we welcome teen girls 14+ with a parent or guardian.

Do I Need Drumming Experience?
No. We’ll offer some classes that challenge experienced drummers but most classes will be presented in a way that assumes no experience and balances the needs of new drummers and experienced percussionists.

What Drums or Other Instruments Should I Bring?
If you own any of the instruments that we’ll be using in our classes, you are welcome and encouraged to bring your personal drums. (Djembe, dunun, taiko, shekere) Please just take care to label them and keep track of them so they don’t get confused with someone else’s. Also welcome are any other percussion or melodic instruments (e.g. frame drums, flutes) that you would enjoy playing in our fire side drumming and song circles

What Drums or Other Instruments Will Be Provided?
If you haven’t got drums, fear not. We will have enough instruments for all participants up to our maximum class size in each workshop.

Are drums available for rent?
Instruments provided during class are included in your registration fee. If you would like your own personal dedicated djembe for the weekend, (e.g. to play the same drum all weekend, to practice or jam outside of workshop hours), some drums will be available to rent for the weekend for a modest fee.
